EWCC Club 25 TT
Sunday 16 August saw the running of the Club 25 Mile Time Trial. Held on the Smeatharpe course the event attracted a strong field with a number of EWCC riders giving it all.

Cream First Crit Series
The final round of the Cream First Crit Series took place at Torbay Velo Park on Thursday 13 August.
Our own Morgan Centini managed a hard fought third position.

I’m sure that we are all wishing for a little rain by now, but one of the upsides of this summer is the great conditions to be out on a bike, the perfect way to enjoy the parched Devon landscapes. So sign up for one of the club rides and get out on the bike.
Club rides are there for all of our members, we hope there is something that suits all riding desires. However, if you think we’ve missed something or want to suggest something new do get in touch, we are always keen to hear of new ideas/routes.

Paracycling – 25 Mile TT
EWCC hosted the National Paracycling 25 mile TT race on Sunday 9 August. The event was held on the fast roads around Smeatharpe on the Blackdown Hills. Recent repairs to most of the roads on the course allowed the event time proceed in a safe fashion.
This was final round of the 2026 Lloyds Paracycling & Disability National series that includes both circuit and time trials.
Finlay Webb came 3rd on the day and secured the series title in the MC-5 class. This comes on the back of winning the combined C1-5 track national series. A great achievement considering a bad crash in the early season. JayGee secured the win in the MC-D class in his first ever Para event.
Our thanks go to Andy Webb who organised this event and to the volunteers who made it happen. There was lots of really positive feedback from participants.

Cycling Academy
Efforts to revive the EWCC Cycling Academy continue to progress. We believe that we have found a venue and hope to be in a position to advertise the sessions in the near future. In the first instance we will be focusing on off-road skills, and probably CX to provide a routeway into the coming SWCX season.

24 Hour Time Trial National Championships
Pete Bishop took on the RTTC National 24 Hour Championship on the weekend of the 25/26 July. The course took in the rolling terrain of west Cheshire and Shropshire, with one leg venturing to the edge of Wrexham.
Pete managed to ride just shy of 374 miles in 24 hours to claim 5th overall in the Road Bike category. That is some effort…..
SWXC Series – Gawton
A few brave Wheelers took on a new challenge at the latest round of the SWXC series at the Gawton Gravity Hub near Tavistock. As the name suggests the course provided plenty of descending, with some challenging technical sections in perfect dry conditions. Of course what goes down…….., so strong legs for the climb back to the top of the course were required.
Chapeau to Monty Higgins, who managed to bag another win. His dad couldn’t quite match that, but placed a very creditable 4th despite going the wrong way on the first lap!
Final Round of the East Devon 10 mile TT Series
Tuesday evening saw the final round of the East Devon 10 mile TT series. After the race, ridden on the usual Honiton course, participants and helpers retired to Race HQ at Dunning Court Honiton for prize giving. Many thanks Sally Hutter for arranging the venue and providing refreshments, and to Exeter Brewery for their contributions to the prizes.
Thanks should go to the organisers of the series, to all the riders, time keepers, helpers and Marshall’s.

Devon Air Ambulance Cycle Challenge
If you enjoy a cycling challenge, whilst raising money for a good cause, why not sigh up for the Devon Air Ambulance Cycle Challenge, taking place on 12 September 2026.

This weeks sees some important news on the Time Trial season with final round of the East Devon 10 mile series and the date and location of the club 25 mile TT confirmed.
The final round of the East Devon 10 mle TT series will take place on Tuesday 11th August. This will take place on the Honiton Course (S26R/10C), with the HQ at Dunning Court Community Centre, EX14 1FQ (see map below).
The Exeter Wheelers Open 25 mile TT takes place on the 16th of August on the Smeatharpe course. The road has been checked and it is confirmed that the necessary repairs have been made to the road surface, allowing this event to proceed.
If you can’t ride, on either the final East Devon 10 Mile TT or the 25 Mille TT, then do please consider marshalling, we do need help to ensure that these events go ahead.

Pedalling with Purpose
Last Tuesday two EWCC members ventured out to support a family riding Lands End to John O’Groats. They are aiming to raise £50,000, to be split between two charities, PALS and Treloar’s, chosen by their daughter, Chloe, who has benefited from the amazing work they do.
The cycle ride is especially challenging for Chloe (17) who has cerebral palsy. She may not be able to walk but she loves to get out on the bike. She is undertaking the challenge on an adapted tandem (supplied by local company Freetrike based in Silverton) piloted by her dad, Tom.

Cyclo Cross Calendar is out
The CX calendar for the forthcoming season has been published.
Along with many of the regulars there’s a new course at Saltash School.
The EWCC round is confirmed as the 15 November.
MTB Racing at Gawton Gravity Hub
After a bit of a hiatus, occupied by the XCR races at Wheal Jane, XCO continues this weekend with racing at a new venue, Gawton Gravity Hub, Nr Tavistcok.
Apparently its a great course that has been test ridden by our very own Stuart and Monty Higgins.
Dawlish GP
Apologies for not mentioning this last time, but a big shout out to the EWCC riders who managed to fly the flag at the Dawlish GP on 17 July. Chapeau……
