Mince Pie Run Sunday 16th, December 2012
It’s carb loading time! This Sunday the club run will be the reverse Triangle route stopping at the cafe in Willand. It is a pan flat 35 mile social ride. If you really must do your two hours of tempo you can do it after the Cafe!
The cafe has had a bit of a refurb so now has fabric covered chairs. For those crazy boys and girls who persist in riding without mudguards at this time of year please bring something to sit on to ensure we can keep using this venue.
Come and join us for a Christmas Pint
Next weeks the time for the evening pub ride!
Tuesday 18/12/2012 pint - meetup at the Exeter Cycle Cafe on the Quay 1830
Thursday 20/12/2012 pint - meet at the usual place - Aldi Pinhoe 1830
The Bike Shed Roller Race Report
Thank you to the volunteer staff from Exeter Wheelers CC, our sponsors and most of all the the riders for providing a great evening of racing. Now, you will have to click here to get the full report!
Thursday Night Roller Riding Sessions
For the next 3 Thursday nights - 12th, 22nd and 29th November, the club is putting on some roller riding sessions as a fun alternative to the regular chaingang (tempo!) rides.
So instead of meeting at Aldi's, come on down to the Bike Shed at the same time (1830) for some rollers action! We'll be showing people how to ride smoothly and there'll be plenty of rollers available to have a go... and who know's maybe a little racing too!
It's a good warm-up before the December inter club competition.
2012 Hill Climb Results
Well done to Peter Medhurst for storming the hill in a blinding 4:49 - Peter wins the cake - see here for results and pictures
The Christmas Lunch
Spread the word! It's on the 2nd December at the Twisted Oak same format as last year. Hope to see you there for a bit of festive celebration.
Time: 12:30, it's a carvery – pay on the day
£11.95 with dessert or £8.95 main course only. £5.95 carvery for kids
We do need to give the pub a rough idea of numbers so please let us know if you're coming - either by email here or by ringing Didier on 01392 833478
Introductory Rides go Fortnightly
Due to the huge success and enthusiasm behind these rides - we have stepped up and put them on bi-weekly. The next ride will be on 10th November 9am Odeon. Spread the word it's a great way to get started with group riding and see what the clubs all about.
Tuesday Chaingang is moving
As of Tuesday 16/10/2012 - the Tuesday chaingang is moving from the Dawlish road to a new and safer route on the old Tedburn road from Pocombe bridge. The new meeting place will be 1830 at Swaines garage. See the course details here
It's a gradual climb out towards Cheriton Bishop on a quiet road with a fast return from the roundabout after Goldscross Hill. Should make for a safer more fun route - with lots of possibilities for adaptation for riders looking to do a bit more.
Now we just need to think of a new pub for a Christmas pint!
Winter Clothing
We will shortly be compiling a top up order for club clothing. We typically only stock summer kit - Shorts, Jerseys and Gilets.
If you have any ideas about winter kit - now would be a good time to let us know. It takes a few months to come in from Endura and we don't stock it so please do let us know what you want and we'll order it in for you.
We'll post a reminder in a couple of weeks with a view to placing an order on Endura at the end of July.
You can email your clothing requirements here
Racing at WestPoint
After a break of four years, bike racing is returning to the popular westpoint circuit nr Exeter. The kilometre circuit features sweeping bends and a short incline to the finish which will provide exciting racing. These demo events will provide the potential for an expanded series in 2013. On entering the site riders will be provided with guidance for car parking, warm up area and spectating, please adhere to this advice. for more information contact andrewparker@britishcycling.org.uk

Saturday Race Training Rides
We are now operating a race training ride at 8am leaving from the Odeon. The same ride format will apply, however the length and type of rides will be discussed in advance on the
FaceBook group
Sunday Club Ride Changes
We are now operating with a maximum group size of 20 riders due to popularity. If more riders turn out we will split the groups into mixed ability groups a few minutes apart so please listen to your ride leaders before setting off as they may ask you to depart in a particular group.
The club is now offering two sunday rides - while there is demand, we are operating a faster paced ride in addition to the standard Sunday ride. The main differences with this group are:
- This group goes in front of the main club run as a faster paced steady race training ride for experienced riders.
- It has a lower level of rider support.
- It will follow (for at least the first 25miles) the published route. If riders find it unsuitable they can then drop back to the main run.
- An additional mileage may be added on towards the end.
Club Clothing
As our Club Chairman Greg Rorke is currently being nursed back to health from injury there has been some difficulty obtaining clothing from the Bike Shed. In the interim period, if you need any items, you can call Jamie Howard on 07525 253064 and arrange to meet over lunch at the Bike Shed to collect and pay for your items.
